So my mom is coming to visit, and mentioned that she just got an iphone and "wants some lessons." She's sixty three and decidedly not tech-savvy.

I'm thinking we'll do email, photos/video, calendar, notes. Maybe music. Probably the app store and a discussion about itunes and syncing.

Other ideas? And perhaps more importantly, what should I NOT be showing her, lest she screw things up for herself?

@Brownski: It depends on how often you see her and how long she is going to be there.

Session 1: I'd start with phone, email, music, calendar. But I'd load the music for her.

Then I'd see how that goes.

Session 2: If she masters that just fine, I'd move to photos and video.

Session 3: If she has the basic use down, then I'd move on to iTunes and syncing. But only if I felt comfortable that she wasn't going to need me for basic use stuff - unless you are going to see her again like in two weeks.

Session 4: Then and only then would I jump in to the world of Apps. (Except for maybe some Apps I put on it for her.) If you aren't going to see her again for say 3 months, then I'd wait until she's played with the phone for 3 months.

Then again, all this is based on my non-tech-savvy parents, including my dad who has an iPod that I put all the music on and which he never has to sync.

for everyone that has been following my Nexus One saga.

i got it back today, 55 dollars later for the dust under the screen fix (i was Rooted)

when i sent my phone in i was assured it would be 100% fixed. i also requested to have my bootloader relocked on the phone.

as far as i can tell they removed the dust from under the screen but the screen still 'clicks' like when you have that sticky sound from a piece of adhesive not sticking right. so i suspect it will get dust under the screen again shortly.

they also failed to relock the bootloader. even when i was told by the service guy doing so would not be a problem.

overall? not amused at the idea of potentially sending the phone back again for dust issues and that they didn't perform all the 'repairs' i requested even when told it could be done.

@Jux: Its actually a ton more efficient and logical than people are giving it credit for.

You're now twice as likely to know about it and fill it out than you were if you only got the survey.

That saves them the expense of sending someone out to your house to do it in person.
